We understand that there are terms and words used on this site and during church services that not everyone will be familiar with.  In order to get everyone on the same page, we have put some terms and their defintions as Asbury United Methodist Church uses and knows them.

We hope you find them helpful and if there are any other questions, please feel free to send Pastor Andy an email.

United Methodist:

Like all groups and organizations, churches have specific brands that they are a part of.  At one time, many of the denominations were very different (Baptist, Luthern, Catholic) however, the alegiances to these names is more of an anchor from the past.  The United Methodist Church has a proud heritage of serving God and we are proud to be a part of that denomination.  However, we are neither a better nor a worse denomination or church than others, simply different.

Communion:

When Jesus Christ was walking the earth, he started a meal with his friends called Communion.  This meal is to be eaten when we remember Jesus and what he means to us.  We participate in Communion in a manner called INTINCTION.  This is where one breaks off a piece of bread and dips that piece in a cup of juice.  The bread represents Jesus body that was broken on the cross.  The juice represents Jesus blood that was spilt for the forgiveness of our sins.
